Autoshift3

No shifter required! Centauri II knows when to change gear. The internal rear hub transmission changes gears from 1-3 as you speed up and slow down. It’s entirely mechanical and the hub is designed to run for thousands of miles without service. A sealed internal oil bath provides continuous lubrication and is serviceable by bike shops.

Optimized suspension system

Monoshock System

Smoothing out the ride without adding weight, complexity and maintenance is a tall order. Centauri II ditches the complexity of mountain bike suspension forks for a single friction-damped coil spring arrangement. With 30mm of travel it’s enough to smooth things out and help riders maintain control when hitting unavoidable obstacles (hello potholed streets.) Without complex seals and dampers to maintain, it’ll run for years with nothing but an occasional re-greasing of moving parts under the dust boot.

Go farther, go faster.

The Centauri is equipped with a new highly-capable, powerful mid-drive motor that offers the right amount of pep when you need it. Combined with the long range battery, it is the perfect recipe for a do-it-all city commuter.

Lights, action.

Bright front and rear integrated lighting provides high visibility. The front “multivision” light integrates into the frame, providing a sleek aesthetic. The rear light is mounted under the saddle, a high point on the bike easily spotted by other road users, and can be moved to standard rear rack mounts if desired.

Easy to love , however you ride.

From frame to belt, battery to motor, we select high-quality components to keep the overall weight down, making an ebike that rides like a regular bike.

5 levels of assistance

At your fingertips.

Eco, Tour, Sport and Turbo modes increase pedal assist power at any speed up to 28mph. With an added BOOST button, achieve up to 4 seconds of full Turbo power in any mode to help you get off the line quickly.

Three sizes, for all.

Three easy-to-fit sizes to accommodate most riders. The mid-step design offers precise handling while lowering stepover height; each size serves riders of many heights and shapes.

Nimble bike that's lots of fun!

I have been looking for a lighter belt drive ebike with a simple transmission and this is it. The Ananda motor with the belt drive is quiet and smooth with plenty of power. The torque and cadence sensing is intuitive and natural. The automatic shifting is a pleasant surprise. I had considered a fixed gear ebike but the 3 speed hub suits the mostly flat roads here well. Moderate hills are managed by moderating cadence below the first gear to second gear shift point (around 11mph) and riding in a higher assist level. The stock stem is adequate but I prefer a more upright riding position so I installed an adjustable stem. Do not expect too much from the mono shock, by nature it has its limits but does work to smooth things out a bit. I spent years on road bikes but now that I'm riding more upright, weight is more directly placed on the seat so I added a suspension seat post for a smoother ride. That meant rerouting the wiring from the rear seat to the back of the rack. You will typically need tools and experience working on bikes to complete this work. Otherwise, a local shop can do it for you. These are all changes to suit my riding style and comfort needs and are not necessary for everyone who chooses this bike. To test the battery range, I rode 20 mi in Sport or Turbo pas. Average speed was 15-16 mph but the last three miles were 20mph in turbo. The display indicated two bars of battery remaining at the end of the ride even though the range in turbo…

Put together with bailing wire and bolts

Mostly a good experience, outside the irregular response of the boost button to maybe save your life at a busy intersection. Why not spend the extra five cents and get a button that works most of the time rather than once in ten attempts to activate the big powerful motor so as to cause the ebike VVolt to move, propell it self, go rather than sit and die in traffic?

It would be a mercy. Also, what is the secret code for attaching the front fender? Is there a place to find two screws to attach the nich front fender to the bicycle? Or should I go to the Hardware store and ask them to find some way to attach the fender. In Denver we often appreciate the action of a fender to keep the water and ice off the person of the bike rider.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback, John. We're sorry to hear about your trouble with the Boost button and that the front fender installation on your Centauri II has been difficult!

Rider safety is our top priority, and we strongly suggest reading our blog post about getting the most out of your unique Centauri II here: https://vvolt.com/blogs/news/centauri-ii-riding-tips-get-the-most-out-of-your-autoshift3-transmission?_pos=2&_psq=centauri+ii&_ss=e&_v=1.0
This link goes over how we programmed the boost button. Note it's important to press and hold the button for 1 full second while travelling between 5-20mph in order for it to activate the motor.

Regarding the fender installation, we install the tab on the front of the fork crown while attaching the stay to the lowest 3-pack mounts on the fork blade. If you follow our instructional assembly video, you'll see these steps covered starting at about 2:00 minutes. Here's a time-stamped link for you: https://youtu.be/BOUgQ9g12Uo?si=ztlQnM3eiIK2arA8&t=130

We appreciate you taking the time to provide this constructive feedback. It helps us identify areas for improvement across our product line! Happy riding in Denver :^)

Very Comfortable Bike with Minimal Cons

I've been riding the Centauri II for the past month for my daily commute of 12 miles (one way) and I've put a total of 500 miles on the bike. I need to charge the battery at home and at work if I want to keep the bike in sport mode. The winter chill also reduces the battery range, though I can still make it to and from work on a full charge.

    Pros:

    - Safety, this bike seams to keep rider/battery safety more in mind than other companies

    - Removable battery, I carry my bike up and down to the basement every day, and the bike is much lighter without the battery.

    - Battery placement on underside of bike, when leaving the bike out in acclimate weather, it's good to know that water/snow isn't going to get into the battery cave

    - Upright sitting position is very comfortable for longer rides

    - Automatic gear hub is very nice since you don't have to fiddle around with shifters, especially during winter while wearing mittens and pogies

    - Integrated lighting, bright enough for city night riding

    - Belt drive, holds up to salt better

    - Service center responds within 1 working day on my questions

    Cons:

    - I wish there was a throttle, the boost button 4 seconds is not long enough to go up hills, and the 4 seconds is too long when you need to do an unexpected stop (under 4 seconds).

    - The paint, it has chipped in several spots where it leans up against bike rakes

    - Belt drive, it's more difficult to take off the rear wheel

    - The wheel size limits your…

    Great ride and great value

I am a long-time avid cyclist but my legs don't work quite the way they used to. I did a lot of soul-searching and on-line research and found that this model has everything I might want in an eBike. So I bought two! My partner and I are casual riders but love an occasional long run. The torque-sensing mid-drive assist with automatic shifting is smooth and flawless. Hill climbing is fun again! Standard fenders and rack are perfect for us. Thank you Vvolt.

    So good!

I have been in the market for an E bike for sometime. I’ve done a lot of review. I also purchased the first generation Centauri for my son as a commuter bike to PSU.Just purchased the Centauri II and couldn’t be happier. It is a very well designed bike. Zippy. Good quality components. Excellent customer service. The automatic shifting is intuitive and very frankly I’m glad to have shifting components not exposed to the weather.Run, don’t walk to buy one of these.
