Centauri Key Highlights

The little design choices that make this model stand out.

We know it's an ebike, but we didn't need it to scream "I AM AN EBIKE". Our bikes take aesthetic cues from vintage cruisers and classic rides.
With the Enviolo internal gear hub, just twist the shifter to find your perfect gear. There's no such thing as a "missed shift" with this step-less system that provides a wide gearing range. Unlike derailleur gears, you can shift anytime - while pedaling, coasting, or at a stop.
The battery pops out with the simple twist of a key so you can easily charge it separately from where your bike is stored.

Every component, carefully chosen

No heavy batteries, overpowered motors, or clunky profiles. The Centauri was designed to perfectly balance performance, value, and looks.

Goodbye traditional chains.

  • Lasts 3x longer than a chain!
  • No grease, no grime.Doesn't stretch over time.
  • Whisper quiet and smooth as silk.
  • Maintenance free!

Hello Belts!

The battery is easily detachable from the bike with the twist of a key. Charge the battery from anywhere and leave the bike behind!

The Centauri comes with hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors to ensure maximum stopping confidence on the road.

The Centauri comes fitted with cleverly thought-out mounting points for maximum versatility. Racks, fenders, baskets, boombox? No problem.

    Good alternative

Intrigued by belt drive and price. Belt drive's fine, heaven help you if you have a rear flat and you're away from home. Changing a flat is more complex than I'd like and hopefully won't be necessary as I did go the tubeless option. The shifting cable can be a bear to get back on--at least it was as delivered as I had to go through the process while making the final tire conversion to tubeless. If there's a fender attached, it's even more difficult as you won't be able to remove the wheel without first removing the fender. That wouldn't be a problem for me as I was not able to install the rear fender. I have a Topeak rack in place, too, and the bolts attaching the extension arms of the rack to the rack itself interfered with the fender. I had to decide either fender or rack and I had to choose rack. It would be useful if the bike had a separate eyelet up and forward from the eyelets used for the fender. The frame I have provided no choice but to use one set of eyelets for both the rack and the fender and it just doesn't work. Otherwise, the bike's cool, looks decent, rides well, has plenty of power.

Hi Art, Thanks for the constructive review! We're updating the rear dropouts on 2024 productions. (not a fix for you but an FYI for folks who might be shopping this year) Also, we welcome you to call or email our tech support team. We can walk you through the spacer setup required to fit rack and fenders on your Centauri as well as give you some tips to make the Enviolo cable installation a little smoother.

250mi in and loving my Centauri

Have had a blast riding my new Centauri so far. As a long time city commuter who also likes a few longer rides this was the bike that ticked all of the boxes for me. A sleek, simple but powerful bike. It feels super fast, even loaded and for person who likes to pedal, the range has been great. Multiple 30mi rides in LVL 1 with up to LVL 3 on larger inclines maintaining about 17mph avg & returning with 50% battery. Has plenty of juice off the line if you need it and dang, I’m also just sold on ebikes. It is so nice to feel a bit faster again as I’m aging & having some hill help when you’re loaded or just tired is so nice! Thanks VVolt, you’re making rad things for alt transportation; just bought a 2nd!

    Cutie Pie Bike

I was looking for an e-bike that 1) did not scream, "I'm and e-bike!!! Heavy and clunky!" 2) had a belt drive and 3) came in a fun color. After looking on Reddit, reading reviews, looking in stores, and then more digging around online, I settled on the Centauri in the Mars color. It's been a month and I! LOVE! THIS! BIKE! The continuously variable transmission hub: dope. It's so fun to dial in the perfect setting for where I'm riding and the amount of effort I want to put in. Easy to set up, even easier after watching the video. Beautiful lines. The downside: not a great range compared to other bikes on the market. I'm patiently waiting for the bigger capacity battery to come in stock. Otherwise, solid purchase. I'm glad I bought this one.

    Urban commuter

Truly Enjoying my VVOLT Centauri bike! It has been a great choice for urban commuting, especially with its comfortable design and ability to handle hills well. Personally, have been averaging 25-mile range using high assistance up hills in Seattle WA. The bike is still holding up well after 300 miles of commuting in PNW rain. The customer service has been beyond amazing, I had a minor issue with battery fitment which was addressed with no hassles and very promptly!

    Centauri Changes the Game

This bike is super fun. The ride is super smooth and silent. Pedal feel is great. No ghost pedaling and the shifting is really nice how you can dial it in exactly to the resistance you want. The bike feels lightweight so it’s really nimble when turning but stable enough to not feel wobbly like a cruiser. Feels very sleek and still keeps the ride as a cycling experience vs motorbike in disguise.

I’ve ridden a handful of ebikes before and the Centauri has a premium feel. I think an overlooked feature is how nice it is to pedal without any assistance added. So many bikes are way too heavy or immobile without any assist. In fact, many rides I find myself warming up the first few miles by riding without any assist turned on.

I liked the design of the stock seat but it just was way too hard for me personally. I found after 45 minutes of riding, I just had to stand on the pedals and take breaks. I swapped out my seat to one with a little more give and width and the bike is basically perfect for me now.

I’m curious if a fast charger could be offered in the future. I really like how sleek the build is now so I don't really want a bigger battery - it lasts for as much riding as I want to do in a sitting. I find myself getting out around 34 miles of range using pedal assist 1 during my rides - 6’3’’ 190 lbs.

It’s really nice to move in and out of my apartment + I love being able to hop on bike paths are weave through Los Angeles. Hopefully this helps anyone considering a purchase.

Components & Specs

Full component specifications for our fellow nerds.

Enviolo Hub

Way better than derailleur gearing, the Enviolo TK continuously variable transmission hub features a 380% range and never needs adjustment.

MPF 6C Motor

We're fans of the strong and silent type, so we use an MPF mid-drive motor with all-metal gearing in an oil lube bath. It has 350-watt nominal power and 650-watt peak output.

Mid-Motor Battery

Our 375Wh standard battery provides 15 to 40 miles of range depending on terrain, assist level, and other factors. An upgraded 500Wh battery is also available for increased range and power. All of our batteries are removable and can be charged on or off the bike.

Class 1 / Class 3 Controller

Our mid-motor bikes can be configured with a Class 1 (motor assistance up to 20 mph) or a Class 3 (motor assistance up to 26 mph) controller.

Mid Motor Display

Our mid-motor handlebar display has 6 levels of assist plus walk mode, a backlight and USB power-out. In assist mode 0, your Vvolt can be ridden without motor power, just like an analog bike. In assist mode 5, you're getting the maximum power. Full speed ahead!

Brakes

Hydraulic brakes paired with 160mm rotors provide ample stopping power.

Gates Belt Drive

Carbon reinforced belts from Gates® last longer than chains, operate quietly, and don't require greasing. No more unintentional chainring tattoos!

Tires

27.5" x 45mm tires with smooth tread for fast-rolling on pavement. Wide enough to tame bumps and offer increased tracking on gravel or hard-packed dirt.
